Alternate Uses for Baby Oil

Baby oil can be used for a lot of things apart from smoothing babies' bottoms. Made of mineral oil and fragrance, this inexpensive and easily available commodity can be quite useful for adults too.

Shaving

Instead of wasting tons of soap or shaving gel every time you need to shave, just apply baby oil to your skin instead. Shave as usual and you won’t even have to moisturise after, since the oil will take care of that for you. Alternatively, you can shave the normal way and use baby oil to moisturise your skin afterwards.

Oil cleansing

Oil is an effective cleanser for oily skin, since oil attracts oil. Work the baby oil into your skin, dip a washcloth in really hot water and place it on your face to steam it. Wipe off the oil with the cloth and then apply apple cider vinegar to your skin with a cotton ball to tone it.

Keeping warm

As winter rolls around, you can use baby oil to give you some extra warmth. Apply it to your face, hands and any other bits of exposed skin to shield them from the cold, since it can be difficult to cover them with woolens.

Soaking in the tub

Add some baby oil to your bathtub for a hydrating soak. The oil will moisturize your skin and cleanse it, leaving it soft and silky.

Removing makeup

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on an expensive makeup remover, just put a couple drops of baby oil on cotton or tissue and use it to remove your eye makeup.

Removing paint or nail polish

If you get either paint or nail polish on to your skin, just massage some baby oil over it, and then scrub it off with soap and water.

Getting a massage

If you are getting a massage, opt for baby oil rather than lotion or cream. Work it into your skin, let it rest for half an hour and then go for a shower.

Removing earwax

If your ear has gotten clogged up with wax, all you have to do is lie on your side and have someone pour a few drops of warm baby oil into your ear. Let the oil stay in your ear long enough to dissolve all the gunk, then tilt your head back and remove the oil onto a towel.

Softening cracked heels

If the skin on your feet is hard and cracking, apply baby oil to your feet every night and then put on a pair of socks. You will start noticing a difference almost immediately.

Getting rings off your fingers

If you have rings on your fingers that won’t come off, massage a little baby oil into the area and work them off slowly.

Removing temporary tattoos

If you have applied a temporary tattoo on your skin and want to get it off, baby oil will get it off in a jiffy.

Preventing stretch marks

If you are pregnant and worried about stretch marks, massage some baby oil into your skin every day. It will keep your skin smooth and supple, so that any stretching hopefully won’t leave marks.

Polishing wooden furniture

If your wooden furniture is starting to look a little faded and dull, spruce it up with some baby oil. You can even use it as a preventive barrier against watermarks – just polish your tables lightly with baby oil before you have guests over.

Untangling jewellery

If you have a necklace or bracelet that’s all tangled up, dunk it in baby oil for a minute or two. The oil will grease the metal links and it will be easier to untangle. You may need a pin to poke into some of the really bad snarls.

Removing band-aids and bubblegum

If you have a band-aid or some bubblegum stuck to your skin or hair, use a little baby oil to work it free. You can even use baby oil to remove any excess wax that is stuck to your skin after you’ve waxed.
